Bach to Booksis the name for the Friends'-sponsored arts and humanities series offered at the library. The main goal of Bach to Books is to share a variety of programs featuring music, dance, visual arts, literature, history and more with the people of our community, for their enjoyment and enlightenment. We offer these programs free to the public, so that everybody can attend.
The Allen Philharmonic will open our 2009-10 season on Saturday, October 3, with a new partner: ALLen Reads. This performance begins at 8:00pm at Suncreek United Methodist Church, 1517 W. McDermott Drive, Allen, Texas.
A key theme of ALLen Reads' book selection this year is the powerful influence music can have in one's life. The Symphony will perform Albinoni's Adagio in G Minor as one of their selections. This piece features prominently in The Cellist of Sarajevo, AR's main book for this year, and it is just the first of 22 musical events that will occur across Allen between October 3 and March 6, when author Steven Galloway will speak at the Allen Public Library.
"It is so exciting for the Symphony to be bringing a part of the book to life by performing the Adagio," declared Ann Livingston, President of the Friends of the Allen Public Library. "One of ALLen Reads' goals is to involve people in reading through events and programs that enhance the meaning and experience. This performance certainly does that."
